We are currently working with a local company called Everything Genetic, to offer a new genetic testing service to clients. Whilst the insurance industry cannot use the results of genetic testing against a client, they are permitted to use testing data that works to a client’s benefit.
We commenced discussions with the medical underwriters of AIG initially, to find out that if a client can evidence for example the absence of markers such as the BRCA1 gene, this would help them is securing preferable terms. This will potentially open up a new market in helping people with complex family histories, and a question mark over their own insurability, secure important cover. This piece of work is ongoing into 2018.
